The History of The Amigo Bar

Welcome to the captivating history of the Amigo Bar - Drinks & Bites. Founded by the late Ambigah Parasuraman in 1985, this family-owned establishment holds a special place in the hearts of locals and tourists alike. Over the years, it has undergone remarkable transformations, becoming a beloved destination for delicious drinks and tantalizing bites.

In its early years, the Amigo Bar started as a humble watering hole on the ground floor of a building situated on the iconic Royal Road in Cap Malheureux. Ambigah Parasuraman, a visionary entrepreneur with a passion for food and drinks, created an atmosphere that exuded warmth, conviviality, and impeccable service. As word spread about the Amigo Bar's unique ambiance and delectable libations, it became a popular spot for locals and visitors seeking an unforgettable night out.

However, recognizing the need to constantly evolve and cater to the discerning tastes of patrons, Ambigah made a bold decision. He closed the bar and transformed it into a trendy restaurant on the first floor. This move allowed him to explore his culinary talents and welcome esteemed celebrities who sought out the restaurant for its remarkable cuisine.

Sadly, in 2005, the Amigo family suffered a great loss when Ambigah Parasuraman passed away. The news shook the community. Yet, the spirit of the Amigo endured, thanks to the resilience and determination of Ambigah's spouse, Nalini Parasuraman, the pillar of strength for the family. Taking over the reins from 2005 until 2016, she steered the ship with unwavering dedication, facing the challenges head-on.

In 2016, a new chapter in the Amigo Bar's history began as Ambigah's eldest son, Kavinen Parasuraman, assumed the responsibility of overseeing the restaurant. Kavinen, armed with his father's legacy and his own culinary prowess, brought a fresh perspective and invigorated energy to the Amigo Restaurant. Under his guidance, the restaurant continued to flourish, captivating patrons with its exceptional cuisine and warm hospitality.

Now in 2023, a new chapter unfolds in the captivating history of the Amigo Bar as it reopens its doors, radiating a renewed sense of energy and purpose. At the helm of this revival is Kovishen Parasuraman, the youngest son of the late Ambigah Parasuraman. Kovishen's unwavering commitment to preserving his father's legacy while infusing his own unique flair has propelled the Amigo Bar into a new era of excitement and innovation. Having grown up in the warm embrace of the Amigo Bar, Kovishen developed an intimate understanding of its essence and the magic it held. He cherished the memories of watching his father expertly craft cocktails and serve them with a genuine smile, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie. It was these experiences that ignited Kovishen's own passion for mixology and hospitality, igniting a flame within him that would guide his journey in the years to come.

Today, the Amigo Bar stands as a testament to the Parasuraman family's dedication to providing exceptional experiences. As you step inside, you will be greeted by a fresh, contemporary ambiance that seamlessly blends tradition with modernity. The carefully curated menu boasts an impressive selection of innovative and creative cocktails, each crafted with precision and flair. Paired with mouth-watering tapas, these libations create a symphony of flavors that will leave you craving more.

The Parasuraman family's commitment to excellence extends beyond the Amigo Bar. In addition to the restaurant, the Parasuraman family proudly welcomes Yovissen Parasuraman, fondly known as YoviCooks, into their gastronomic empire. Yovissen, the second son of Ambigah, has made a name for himself as a celebrated baker with a dedicated following on various social media platforms. Known for his innovative creations and mouth-watering pastries, YoviCooks brings his exceptional baking skills to the family's enterprise.

Kavinen, Yovissen and Kovishen forms a dynamic trio of culinary talents, each contributing their unique expertise to the Parasuraman family's gastronomic empire. Their collective vision and relentless pursuit of excellence have propelled the Amigo Bar to new heights, securing its place as a cherished establishment in Cap Malheureux.
